What Is A Regular Baptist?
Bethany Baptist Church from the very beginning purposed to fellowship with other churches of like faith: namely, The General Association of Regular Baptist Churches (GARBC).
Any group or organization through the years can deviate from its original purpose. Various Baptist groups have not been immune to this plight. Not all groups that carry the name Baptist hold to the Baptist distinctives, and many have even departed from the faith.
Through the years Baptist groups have banded together to form into organized structures to facilitate cooperation in evangelism, missions and education. Some of these groups have evolved into highly organized denominations that wield power over local congregations. This can undermine the autonomy of the local church. Historically when the schools of these organizations depart from the faith, it is impossible for the local churches to turn the tide of apostasy.
The Regular Baptist Fellowship arose in the midst of the advancing liberalism, modernism and rationalism of the twentieth century that began to attack the mainline denominations. The Regular Baptist Association is not a convention or denomination. It is a group of churches of common convictions voluntarily associating themselves together for fellowship, witness and ministry. Each church in our fellowship are independent local bodies.
The term Regular points to the fact that we are in line with historic Christian truth that believes the Scriptural fundamentals of the faith. We are Baptists in that we hold to the Baptist distinctives.
As Bible believing Baptists we hold many truths in common with fundamental people of other denominations; doctrines such as the inspiration and inerrancy of Scripture, the deity of Christ, His sacrificial death on the cross for sin, His bodily resurrection and personal return, and salvation by personal faith in Him.
